Recipe by Rachel Helmuth
How About Them Apples
This delicious, gooey apple treat is by far, a family and community favorite. While recipes vary, the basic idea is similar. Known today mainly as the Apple Crisp, it was once famously known as the Apple Crumble; and it was enjoyed by the British during WW II.

Instructions:
  1. Apple Crisp 1 cup flour ¾ cup rolled oats 1 cup packed brown sugar 1 t ground cinnamon ½ cup softened butter or margarine 4 cup chopped peeled apples 1 cup sugar, halved 2 T cornstarch 1 cup water 1 t vanilla Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine first 4 ingredients. Cut in butter until crumbly. Press into a greased 9in square baking pan. Cover with apples. In a saucepan combine sugar, cornstarch, water, and vanilla. Cook and stir until thick and clear. Pour over apples. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Bake at 350* for about 1 hour, or until the apples are tender.
