Big Red Ice Cream
Recipe by Meredith Hay
Bake America Great
There are some things that remind you of your childhood, whether it's places, songs, smells or tastes. This is one of those iconic flavors that will surely take you back to a time when you were young, summer days were long (and excruciatingly hot if you grew up in Texas like me) and when you didn't care about the sugar you consumed! This is fail-proof with 3 ingredients, which can be made quickly with minimal setup. Impress your friends at your next party and show up with homemade ice cream!

  1. In your ice cream maker of choice, pour the Big Red and sweetened condensed milk and turn it on.
  2. In a blender, take about 80% of your strawberries and blend them into a pulp.
  3. Pour pulp into the mixer, and the remaining 20% of sliced strawberries.
  4. Here's where the 4th possible ingredient comes into play - milk. If you have a traditional ice cream maker and there's a little room at the top, fill it with milk but if there's no room (like there was NO room left in my Kitchen Aid freezer attachment) you disregard the milk. Either way it will freeze.
  5. Let it churn per ice cream maker's instructions.
  6. To transport, use your best judgement. Some traditional ice cream makers can be transported, if not like the case of my Kitchen Aid attachment, move the ice cream into a glass container with a lid and pop in the freezer for at least a half hour.
  7. Best served in classic Red Solo cups with a plastic spoon!
  • Package of sliced frozen strawberries x 1
  • Big Red soda x 1 liter
  • Sweetened condensed milk (1 can) x 1
  • Milk (Optional) x 1
