Chocolate Walnut Brownies

Love this chocolate walnut brownie recipe. I make it with dark chocolate because I think the more bitter flavor adds to the overall composition of the brownie. I have a lot of friends that seem to really enjoy milk chocolate, however I certainly can't say I fall into the camp. You can also make this recipe with other nuts, including pistachios, almonds, and peanuts. I've made it with all three of the previously mentioned nuts before and they were great! Having said that, walnuts were the original key ingredient so that's the one I'm sticking with today.

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Butter a 9"x9" square baking pan.
  3. In a double boiler over low heat, melt butter and chocolate chips together and remove from heat.
  4. In a different bowl, combine dry ingredients.
  5. When the chocolate/butter mixture has cooled a little whisk in the eggs and vanilla.
  6. Note: it is important to cool the chocolate/butter mixture or the eggs will cook.
  7. Add the dry ingredients and whisk to combine.
  8. Stir in the chopped walnuts ( or other nuts if you choose to make it with a different type of nut)
  9. Pour batter into prepared baking pan.
  10. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until a knife inserted into center comes out clean.
  • Butter x 3/4 cup
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips x 3/4 cup
  • cocoa powder (unsweetened) x 3/4 cup
  • Sugar x 1 1/2 cup
  • Baking powder x 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vanilla extract x 1/2 teaspoon
  • Eggs x 4
  • Chopped Walnuts (I used California walnuts, but you can use any) x 3/4 cup
